Some passions take root early. For us, it started with the sound of wings: a Moluccan Cockatoo and a pair of Blue and Gold Macaws belonging to a grandmother who unknowingly planted a seed that never stopped growing. Those early encounters with parrots left a lasting impression, one that would shape everything that came after.

Years later, that curiosity grew into hands-on aviculture: incubating and hatching quail, pheasant, chicken, and peacock eggs, and learning the rhythms of life from the very beginning. And then came Koshi, a Green-Cheeked Conure who made it impossible not to fall in love with the species. Small, bold, and endlessly expressive, GCCs have a way of proving that personality has nothing to do with size.

Luma Aviaries was founded with conservation at its core. Our goal from the start has been to actively participate in conservation breeding and to raise awareness for the species and ecosystems that need it most. We believe that responsible aviculture and conservation aren't at odds and that they can, and should, work together.

We specialize in several psittacine species, but we have a particular passion for Green-Cheeked Conure color genetics. Working with rare and complex mutations including Moon-cheeks, Sun-cheeks, Opa-mint, and Violet factor combinations is equal parts art and science, and it's work we find genuinely exciting. Every clutch is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of genetics and produce birds that are not only beautiful, but healthy, well-socialized, and ready to become true companions.

Every bird that leaves Luma Aviaries has been hand-raised and individually socialized. Our biosecurity and husbandry is held to high standards because the birds deserve it, and so do the families welcoming them home.
