Forest edges, lowlands, foothills, savanna woodland, and shrubland from western Mexico through Nicaragua and into Costa Rica. Generally found below 600 meters elevation. Social and nomadic outside breeding season, forming flocks of several hundred individuals.
Predominantly green plumage with a distinctive orange forehead patch that grows larger as the bird matures, giving rise to the half-moon name. The upper mandible is horn-colored, which distinguishes them from the similar Peach-fronted Conure. Blue flight feathers are visible in flight.
Bright, social, and active without the intensity of larger conures. They tend to be gentler and less loud than Sun or Jenday Conures, making them a good choice for families and first-time conure owners. Playful and curious, they enjoy interaction and handle well when socialized early.
